Taxonomy Management

Learn how to create and manage taxonomies for organizing your keywords.

What is a Taxonomy?

A taxonomy is a hierarchical structure of categories used to classify keywords. For example:

Products
├── Electronics
│ ├── Phones
│ ├── Laptops
│ └── Tablets
├── Clothing
│ ├── Men's
│ └── Women's
└── Home & Garden

Creating a New Taxonomy

Step 1: Navigate to Taxonomies

  1. Click Taxonomies in the main navigation
  2. Click the Create New Taxonomy button

Step 2: Configure Basic Settings

  • Name: A descriptive name for your taxonomy
  • Description: Optional context about the taxonomy's purpose
  • Root Node: The top-level category name

Step 3: Add Categories

You can add categories in two ways:

Manual Entry:

  1. Click Add Category
  2. Enter the category name
  3. Select a parent category (or root for top-level)
  4. Click Save

Bulk Import:

  1. Click Import Categories
  2. Upload a CSV with category structure
  3. Review and confirm

Managing Existing Taxonomies

  3. Confirm the deletion

Taxonomy Best Practices

Keep It Simple

  • Start with 3-5 top-level categories
  • Limit nesting depth to 3-4 levels
  • Use clear, descriptive names

Plan for Scale

  • Consider future expansion when designing structure
  • Use consistent naming conventions
  • Document category definitions for your team

Review Regularly

  • Periodically audit your taxonomy
  • Merge similar categories
  • Archive unused categories

Exporting Taxonomies

Export your taxonomy for backup or use in other tools:

  2. Click Export
  3. Choose format (CSV or JSON)
  4. Download the file
